• About PDFs

This CD contains electronic versions of all of the issues of Popular Woodworking magazine published between 2000 and 2007. To begin browsing or searching the content, you simply need to click the file called "start.pdf."

All of the files are in "pdf" format. If you are unfamiliar with pdfs, they are a way of sharing computer files with any type of computer: Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, UNIX and others. All of these files should be viewed and printed using a free program called Adobe Reader. Most computers already have Adobe Reader loaded on them, however, if yours does not, it is a simple matter to download it from Abobe.

Click (or copy and paste) the following link in your browser, and you can learn more about how easy it is to use pdfs and download the latest version of Reader to your computer:

Please note that you may experience technical problems if you try to open these documents with programs other than Acrobat Reader or versions earlier than Reader 7.0. If you are asked for a password or if some fonts don't show up on your screen, make sure you're using the latest version of the free Acrobat Reader. Other programs, such as "Preview" on Macintosh computers, will not display or print these files correctly.

• Placing these files on your Computer

You can search, browse and print these files directly off this DVD. However, if you want to move their contents to your computer's hard drive, be sure to copy all of the contents of the DVD to your hard drive and put them in a dedicated folder. If you copy only some of the files, you will lose the ability to search some of the files.

• About the Content on this CD

First, you might notice something is missing from some of these issues: the advertisements. This is intentional. When we converted these older files to pdfs (an expensive process), we decided to convert only the editorial content. We know that some of you enjoy reading the ads, but because these ads are older and they would be so expensive to convert, we chose not to.

You should be aware that you can search (almost) all of these documents using the "Search" function in Adobe Acrobat. It's a great way to hunt down that trick or tip you were looking for. Our searchable index of all our articles back to 1993 is available on our web site at:
